Where are FMI Partners Located?

Indonesia

Indonesia is home to rainforests, terraced rice paddies, vast coral reefs, large urban areas, and a ring of active volcanoes that make up its more than 18,000 islands – about 6,000 of which are inhabited.

More than 720 languages are spoken by its various indigenous tribes. The country is a former Dutch colony and ranks fourth-largest in population (right behind the US), and is the largest Muslim-dominated nation in the world; evangelical Christians make slightly more than 3% of the population.

Pakistan

Pakistan is renowned for natural beauty — from its Arabian Sea coast in the south to the Himalaya Mountains in the north, but the nation also has a profound dark side. Pakistan is one of the top ten countries in which persecution and discrimination against Christians is most severe.

“In this population which is about 97% Muslim, evangelicals make up less than 1% of the Pakistan’s citizens. Yet God’s Spirit knows no barriers, and many people are coming to saving faith in Christ through the ministry of our national partners who often maintain ministries in multiple cities and rural villages.

Several of our partners in the north also have ministry sites across the border, inside Taliban-ruled Afghanistan. Despite the government’s hardline Islamic stances, many of its citizens have very open hearts to gospel of Jesus Christ. FMI also maintains a network of safe houses in Pakistan and Afghanistan for persecuted believers who have been abused and rejected by their families.

Bangladesh

Bangladesh is home to the eighth-largest population on the planet.

It has the equivalent of 50% of the US population crammed into a space the size of Iowa…and much of that area is crisscrossed by 800 rivers and tributaries. Ironically, in a country of so much water, about 20% of its homes are without clean drinking water.

Nearly 90% of Bangladeshis are Muslim, and the remaining 10% are almost all Hindus. Yet a thirst for spiritual truth is as strong as the thirst for sanitary water, and people are open to learning about Jesus.

Türkiye

Türkiye is the gateway between Europe and the Middle East and a key strategic field for reaching into Central Asia.

Even though the majority of the New Testament’s pages were originally written to believers living in its ancient borders, Türkiye is considered home to the world’s largest population unreached with the Gospel. Among its 86 million people, there are very few Christian congregations, and many of those are small and established within the past several years.

Kenya & Horn of Africa

Kenya sits at the base of the Muslim-dense nations which make up the ‘Horn of Africa,’ making it a strategic lighthouse for the Gospel across eastern Africa. In particular, some of our partners have planted churches in Somali communities.

There are 42 linguistically distinct tribes across Kenya, some of which are only now about to receive the complete Bible in their own language for the first time. Many homes in the region where FMI’s partners serve have no access to electricity or running water, and conditions can best be described as “developing.”

While Kenya is a predominantly Christian nation (the Joshua Project notes that 48% of the population considers itself evangelical Christian), nominalism is rampant.

Morocco

Morocco was the first country to officially recognize the sovereignty of the newly formed United States of America following its declared independence from Great Britain. Yet today, Morocco’s own citizens are not given the legal freedom of religious affiliation; by law, those born in this North African nation are automatically considered Muslim. For Moroccans, religion is more a matter of biology and national identity than it is of personal faith.

Morocco has the 10th-smallest evangelical Christian population by percentage of all the world’s nations. Despite their minority status and the great challenges they face, Christian church leaders are robust in their testimony and vision for ministry. Social media has become a great tool for evangelism and discipleship. Beginning in early 2025, FMI officially adopted this country as its newest field of partnership and is beginning the work necessary to establish a national leadership team which will oversee an eventual roster of indigenous church planters across the country.

Expansion to New Fields

With a model for ministry that’s adaptable to cultures around the world, FMI seeks to expand its partnership footprint in two ways. The first way is to increase the number of supported church planters in countries where we have already established leadership teams. The second way is to increase the number of countries where we will develop partnerships.

In early 2025, the FMI board of directors approved establishing Morocco in Arab North Africa as our newest field of partnership. Our staff has also been exploring ministry opportunities in two additional countries. One is in the Arabian Peninsula; the other is in sub-Sahara Africa. Donations to our New Fields account will empower FMI to cultivate ministry relationships within these countries and identify qualified individuals to comprise a national leadership team for overseeing and nurturing church planting networks.
