Fire!

Posted On :

The inferno tore through the homes and shacks of a large swath of the Kenyan slum, destroying everything for many families. In this neighborhood, approximately 1.5 million people live on top of each other in homes that are crammed together like the blocks in a Tetris game with families cooking over open fires. With poor infrastructure in place, exposed electrical wires, and little space between fire and its potential fuel, the fires here are sadly, common.

Thanks to the Lord, one of FMI’s partners, Pastor Caleb, ministers in the area that was engulfed in flames earlier this year. His particular concern was for the widows and the children whom he ministers to regularly who lost everything. Caleb mentors and disciples a group of widows monthly. He and his ministry team also hold Bible clubs and routine food distributions for the children from this slum. AS a result of the fire, 13 widows and their 56 children lost their homes, beds, food, and school supplies. They were able to take temporary refuge in a local church building to sleep.

Caleb responded to the crisis immediately by arranging to provide clothing for the victims. He continued to advocate for this beleaguered group, and through donations, Caleb and his ministry were able to distribute mattresses, food, school supplies, and rolls of tin (roofing materials) for families to rebuild and resume their lives. In response, the widows held a special prayer time in thanks to God and His people. Caleb reported that, with tears in their eyes, the widows said “they had never been remembered in this way before.”

FMI is priviledged to work with overseas partners like Pastor Caleb who feels burdened for his people. He loves his community and strives to continually teach the Word of God and meet their physical needs as they arise. He, like FMI’s other partners, is a voice for the voiceless. Through your gifts of prayers and finances, you play an integral rolse in meeting these spiritual and physical needs. You can help these widows and children give glory to God in the midst of suffering, and that act will have lasting impact in these families. These are stories that the children can tell their children one day about how God intervened on their behalf on a day of devastation.

Pray that a deep faith in Christ will spread like fire and have a greater impact than the ones that tear down homes.
