Mulah left a trail of death and destruction in his wake. Then the waters of baptism raised him to new life.
Support of FMI has empowered indigenous church planters and disciple-makers to have profound influence beyond the people of their own congregations. In Pakistan, several of FMI’s partners reach out to the Afghans living inside their country. Some serve among those who have escaped the brutality of the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan. Some, like Pastor Adam, even dare to reach out to members of the Taliban.
In the Taliban, Mulah found a cause he believed in and was willing to die for. He was not just any subordinate serving in the terrorist group, he was a leader who trained others in the craft of making suicide bombing vests. His legacy was one of destruction only.
But Mulah’s reputation did not deter Pastor Adam from approaching him, engaging him in spiritual conversation, and giving him an Injil (New Testament). Mulah could appreciate Adam’s boldness and he accepted the book. As he read it, Christ’s message of forgiveness, hope, and transformation intruigued him. Adam continued to meet with him, and Mulah surrendered his life to Christ. Mulah prepared to follow in the pattern of Christ’s burial and resurrection through baptism. FMI’s Executive Director had the high privilege of being there when Mulah and others who Adam had discipled were baptized.
After Mulah changed into dry clothes, he talked with the director. “Now I am a suicide evangelist!” he proudly said. He saw their immediate puzzled expression. The Director explained that evangelists for Christ do not terrorize or bully people into placing their faith in Jesus. It is the kindness and love of God which brings our salvation (Titus 3:3-5). “Oh yes,” he quickly agreed, “I simply mean that now I have found that which truly is worth living and dying for. I fully expect to give my life for the sake of the gospel.“
Mulah has indeed been giving his life for the gospel of Christ. He joined Adam in evangelizing and discipling others. Mulah even gave an Injil to the imam of a mosque, and was instrumental in leading him to place his faith in Christ. The Taliban now hunt Mulah in hopes of vanquishing his dynamic ministry. From January through October of 2023, Mulah led 11 people to place their faith in Christ and baptized 8 people. He trained 10 people for evangelism and they, in turn, have introduced an additional 9 souls to new life in Christ.
FMI’s ministry growth as energetic as Mulah’s is mirrored across other countries of partnership. Our national leadership teams have increased the roster of supported church planters by 25% in 2023 alone. FMI’s board of directors approved a 2024 budget that leverages the expansion we have experienced and prepares for more. Help empower courageous partners like Pastor Adam and Mulah to be a spring of living water to quench the spiritual thirst of the people around them through donating today!
