Maqbool’s father was martyred in Afghanistan for his faith in Christ Now Maqbool introduces others who are fatherless to One he has learned to call Father.
As Maqbool’s own faith has matured, he has endured severe persecution. Beyond the loss of family, he has also endured the loss of property and possessions when extremists burned his home to the ground. Sometimes, Maqbool has had to move from place to place to search for shelter. Yet none of this has shaken his courage. Instead, it has deepened his resolve to bring the hope of Christ to those living in darkness. Today, he courageously spearheads FMI’s partnerships inside Afghanistan.
When Maqbool met 11 year old Sami who had become orphaned following the Taliban’s murder of his parents, he not only shared the gospel with him but lived it out. Sami was sold into slavery, working up to 20 hours daily for his own survival and to share food scraps with his younger siblings. Burdened with compassion, Maqbool ransomed the boy, freeing him from bondage. This act caught the attention of Sami’s tribal cheif, who was astonished that someone would risk so much for a child who had nothing to offer in return.

The chief to Maqbool, “I want to honor you for your kindness. Tell me, what can I do for you?” Without hesitation, Maqbool replied, “Give me permission to show your people the story of Jesus.” Curious, the cief asked, “Who is this Jesus?” With humility and boldness, Maqbool explained, “Jesus is the one true God. He is the one who teaches me to love, to serve, and to care for people like Sami. He does not call us to war or violence, but to peace and joy. He is the reason I am here among you.”
The chief was moved and immediately gave permission. Soon, for the very first time, the JESUS Film was shown in that remote Afghan village. About 70 men, women, and children gathered to watch, listening in their own language to the story of the Redeemer who is the ransom to liberate them from spiritual bondage.
Your generous spirits through prayers and contributions aid the ministries of indigenous disciple-makes like Maqbool. Pray that Sami’s tribe, including the chief will continue to seek the Truth, and that the gospel seeds faithfully planted will bear eternal fruit.
