Nurturing the Ministry

Ed Todd envisioned this ministry. Folks like you turned that vision into reality and steadfastly nurtured it along the way.

Mabel and Ed Todd (center) visit with the first indigenous church planter supported by our ministry, his wife, and various church members in the Philippines.

Now at the beginning of 2026, we celebrate the 40th anniversary of FMI’s incorporation. While we usually highlight the work of FMI’s indigenous church planters in these monthly letters, I’d like to shift gears for just a moment and focus on the work here on the supporting side of the partnership equation. Our board and staff are so grateful for you. We serve as the echo to you of our overseas brothers and sisters — to share their stories and relay their deep appreciation for how your donations, your words of encouragement, and your prayers buoy them and propel them for ministry. Among our staff, we call you “our champions” and we love whenever we get to connect with you — whether by email, phone, or in person at regional banquets and speaking engagements at various churches across the US. We trust the Lord will allow these connections to increase this year. Please let us know if you would like one of us to come speak in your area!

By God’s grace, FMI has expanded over the past four decades. Ed’s vision formed while he taught at a seminary in the Philippines. Propelled by our supporting champions, this ministry of empowerment spread across the Pacific and Indian Oceans. When Executive Director, Bruce, joined FMI in 2010, partnerships had concluded in the Philippines and spread to Java — the most populated island of Indonesia, and into Bangladesh and Pakistan. Since then, your gifts have further equipped disciple-makers across more islands of Indonesia, in Türkiye straddling Europe and Asia, in Kenya and Morocco in Africa, and deeper in Asia with the addition of Afghanistan as our newest field of partnership. Trusting the Lord’s timing and provision, we continue to work toward a goal to eventually facilitate, mobilize, and inspire indigenous church planters in Saudi Arabia, too. Discover what else has been happening through the ministry and how you can get more engaged.

Where will the next decade take us? We’re eager to see what the Lord unfolds for you and for our overseas partners and the communities they impact with the transforming gospel of Jesus Christ. Thank you for your recent donation and for your distinctive role in this ministry to introduce the nations to Christ.
